Cougar Rock/Mt. Rainier camping trip
Aug 2-4, 2002
Our
Cougar Rock/Mt. Rainier camping trip was lots of fun ... there were
8 kids and 6 adults, sunshine and starlight! The kids took their
flashlights and played "spy" in the woods around the campsite, many
marshmallows were roasted and much campfire-popped popcorn was eaten.
On Saturday, the group hiked to Carter Falls (about 2.5 miles roundtrip)
and even the youngest (3 1/2 yr) made it all the way under his own power
(even the trail got steep, near the falls). After the hike, some
families headed to Longmire for ice cream while others drove to higher
elevations for a hike to play in the snow and to view the bountiful,
alpine wildflowers. The Cougar Rock campground offered an evening
junior Ranger program that the entire group attended. Each child was
awarded a fabric "Junior Ranger" patch at the end of the program. The
weekend was full and pleasantly tiring. We all look forward to next
year's annual camping adventure!
